VI. Device Linker - Foire aux Questions

6.1 The Help « ? » Command

This help is displayed at any time once needed though a click on the « ? » top icon.

6.2 Device Checker is not starting automatically.

The Windows autorun option may have been deactivated. You have two ways to solve this issue:

Enable Windows autorun (see 6.3)
If you do not have user right to enable Windows autorun, from the file manager, double click on X:\DeviceLinkChecker.exe , where X is your U3 Key CDROM partition unit letter.

6.3 How to enable Windows Autorun ?

Go to Start menu then Run then type Regedit. Once Regedit is opened, browse to go to :
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\Cdrom
Then, on the right are, right click on Autorun , then Modify
A dialog box Edit DWORD value » is displayed: type in 1 to enable autorun (0 to disable autorun)

6.4 What does the message "Device Retry" mean ?

In rare situations (in case many USB devices are connected to your computer), the message "Device Retry" can be displayed if LC could not identify the U3 device. Just click on "Retry" button to restart the process.

6.5 Master Host Advices

Master Host might be a computer which will not have to change configuration. If you plan in the future to change for example the hard drive of this computer and you still want to use this computer as Master Host, it is strongly recommended to unnotch the “Hard Drives” option of the identification parameters.
Ideally, if you can do it, we advise to configure at least a second host.
Thus, before modifying Master Host (for instance the replacement of a hard drive), you can backup data of your U3 Key. In case of Master Host breakdown, your key could be used and recognized on the second host.

6.6 What if one of my host configuration changed ?

An example of such a situation:

Following a hardware problem, I had to change my hard drive.
Device Link Checker was parameterized to identify a host by its Hard Drive (this is not necessary the only chosen option)

From a predefined host:

Before the configuration change :	The U3 Key access is granted on this host.
After the configuration change :	The U3 Key access is now denied on this host.

Solution :

If it was not the case previously, redefined your U3 Key in such a way it enable QKI File creation. Plug this U3 Key, record the QKI File.

On the « Master Host », delete from « target host » the previously known host and import the new QKI File.
Generate the U3 Key (do not forget to backup your data if needed).

6.7 QKI Files: How to record a new host ?

Create a QKI File from a new host once the U3 Key is plugged on this host.
Make this file reachable from the « Master Host ».
Launch Device Linker Single Edition.
In General / Main Board folder, click on « Authorized hosts ».
Make a right click to display the contextual menu.
Select « Import from file » and then choose the QKI File to import.
Click on « OK », the new host is now recorded.
Finally generate the U3 Key to authorized this new host.

6.8 I need to reinstall Device Linker Single Edition

It is no more on the U3 Key. How can I do ?
Use the backup copy of DeviceLinkerSetup1,0_Single.msi you made.

6.9 Log Files

The MobileGov support may ask to receive the log files. You can open them by typing :

In Start/Run menu :
- notepad %TEMP%/DeviceLinker.log to open the first log file
- notepad %TEMP%/DeviceLinkChecker.log to open the second log file
- Then send a copy of these files by email to support@devicelinker.com

6.10 DL Single Edition displays a window error message report

This might come from Internet Explorer settings. To prevent this :

Open Internet Explorer.
In Tools/Internet Options/Advanced menu, click on «Default Settings» button then click on « OK » button.

Launch again DL et restart your operation, it should work better.

6.11 How can I Install U3 Software on my U3 Key ?

To install U3 Software on your U3 Key :
Plug the U3 Key on a known host, Launchpad is starting (if the option to do so was notched when the U3 Key was generated, else from the root folder of the CDROM partition, double-click on LaunchU3.exe).

Solution 1 :
Upload on your computer the U3 software you want from the U3 web site.
From the LaunchPad click on «add software/ install from workstation »
Select the uploaded file and follow the installation steps

Solution 2 :

From the Launchpad, click on « add software/ U3 upload center »
Select/Buy the software you want

6.12 How can i uninstall MobileGov Device Linker Single Edition ?

In Start/Programs/MobileGov Device Linker Single Edition menu, click on “Uninstall” shortcut (it is also possible to use Add/Suppress programs from the Control Panel).
